Avacta Analytical Field Service Engineer

A role is available for a Field Support Engineer at Avacta Analytical Ltd. This role will consist of
80% of the time directly supporting Avacta’s Optim 1000 instruments that are in the field, and 20 %
of the time providing a research and development capability at Avacta headquarters in Wetherby,
UK.
The role of Avacta Analytical Field Support Engineer requires an individual who can bring
innovative thinking and a high degree of self-motivation as well as a high level of ability,
responsibility and reliability. They will be responsible for providing an engineering, diagnostic and
repair facility for the end users and distributors of the Optim 1000 product. The role is global and
will involve travel to end user sites around the world, either in a direct role for Avacta, or in support
of our network of distribution partners.
Avacta Analytical pride ourselves on the quality and efficiency of our instrument support service.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage their own time and schedule their own
support visits, working closely with the product manager to ensure that the standards expected by
our customers and partners remains high.
The Field support engineer will have responsibilities to
- Install instrumentation and supporting accessories at customer sites
- Follow qualification protocols to ensure that the instrumentation is working efficiently
- Visit customers to provide support to diagnose and fix faults in the field
- Report all work carried out to a high standard
- Work as part of an established team to research and develop new accessories and products to expand the Avacta portfolio

Furthermore, it will be expected that the successful candidate will
- Be able to communicate with users to coordinate and deliver instrument servicing
- Be able to provide introductory training to a high standard
- Have the ability to use windows operating system to a medium to advanced level to be able to
- Connect to remote devices
- Communicate with and manipulate PCBs through RS232 interfaces
- Accessing and using event logs to aid fault finding
- Have the ability to be able to do simple electronics fault finding and repair such as
- Interrogating power supply voltages
- Removing and replacing circuit boards
- Have experience working with complex optical systems, preferably free space laser based systems
- Be able to optically align multiple light sources
- Have experience in focus optimization
- Calibrate CCD detectors and spectrographs
